Before Applying For Social Security Disability, Get Tested....

If you're in Texas, the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) actually offers testing to see if even despite your physical or mental condition, there may be jobs you are capable of performing.

Unless you just love being given a little bitty check each month and sitting around the house.

But, there is even more to this than just learning what jobs you may be able to perform.

If, the TWC determines you are incapable of working a full-time job, then you can actually use those test results to help strengthen your case. After filing for Social Security disability, you can put in the online application that these records are available and the Disability Determination Service (DDS) will request them. Along with your medical records to further solidify your contention that you are unable to work, this will help the Administration make a decision oftentimes much sooner than others who are filing at the same time.

While this is not a foolproof plan, it does help back up your contention that due to a physical or mental condition (or a combination of both) you are unable to work.

Even if you are found disabled, you can contact the TWC after being on disability benefits for a time, and if you feel you are ready to go back to work, TWC will test you and actually help you locate a new job or start a new career.

In other words, here are some things to take from this article:

1. You may have a physical or mental impairment, but there may still be jobs out there willing to accommodate your disability to keep you working.

2. Even if you have been on disability for some time, you can contact TWC and ask to be tested for future job placement. This way, if you're ready to get back into the workforce, you're not doing it all alone.

3. If you do have to file for Social Security disability, being tested will better strengthen your case as you attempt to be approved.
